Sarah Arkin at the Danville Register and Bee did an incredible story on us today which you can check out here.

In other news, we’re trying to do big things, so keep your eyes peeled. We’ll be posting some of them soon enough.

In the meantime

While you’re all anxiously waiting to see the footage from Marco Island, check out my recently finished demo reel.

I kind of like it, but a person or two has said other wise.

Oh the beauty of opinions…

Marco Island Documentary

Michael and I (along with Casey) headed down to Marco Island this weekend to document a group of longboarders who recently skated across the state of Florida to raise awareness for BSSL. Here are some pictures from the trip:

The shot above was taken on Indian Hill which is a steep downhill street on which these guys reached speeds up to 35 mph as they carved downhill.

Mike was stellar. He risked life and limb as he manned a longboard in pursuit of the skaters as they rolled downhill. More picture of this to come.

The real story of the day was why this group of longboarders felt compelled to ride across country to raise awareness about an organization 3,500 miles away. Their response simply stated was, “We wanted to use our abilities [skating] to raise awareness about something that is bigger than ourselves. People should use their passions to help those in need.”

We will be posting a video and more photos of the interviews we conducted with these guys very soon.

A few shots from yesterdays adventure

Adventures where I’m able to be creative make me feel more alive than almost anything else.

Despite 8 hours of driving, 7/11 donuts, a deluge of sweat, and some rains from Hurricane Fay, yesterday did just that.

We shot plenty of video, and took plenty of pictures of the dudes, the skating and the Klash.

Those things will be available soon.

In the meantime, here are a few more shots from yesterday.

This weekend

So tomorrow mattington and I will be waking up super early in the morning and making the drive to Ft. Myers, Florida.

We’re shooting some skaters there who recently skated across the state of Florida to raise awareness and support for Buy Shoes Save Lives.

I have a beat up jib I have to try and put together before then. Thanks EBAY!

I think we’re going to be in the newspaper this weekend in Danville,VA.

So hopefully that’s beneficial.

Lot’s of positive things are happening on our end, being reassured in our decision to make this journey and getting to have incredible conversations with people.

For those who may be interested, check out these two videos from Current TV about Northern Iraq/Kurdistan.

More Press!

Matt and I did an interview with the newspaper in my town in South Carolina.

You can read the article here.

We’re going out next weekend to shoot some Florida skaters who are promoting Buy Shoes Save Lives.

Pretty soon we’ll post the radio interview from WBTM as well so you can hear how pro I sound. Right.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Welcome to the site!

Welcome to To Open Your Eyes.com! from Michael Dalton on Vimeo.

I did a radio interview today with Kathryn Davis at WBTM in my hometown (Danville,VA).

It’s aired today at about 3pm EST, and I believe it’s also airing tomorrow.

I’m way new to the world of being interviewed, hopefully I don’t sound completely uneducated.

Luckily typed letters are more professional…

I’ve been spending my free time the past few days working on various things:

  • Demo Reels
  • Letters to Friend’s and Family
  • Phone Calls
  • Media Releases
  • Lurking craigslist for work

During that time I also watched Stand By Me for the first time. I’m not sure how I made it through childhood without watching that movie.

I rented a fine assortment of dvd’s from the library last week, I’m approaching crunch time for having to watch them all before taking them back or renting them again.

If you like to read great things, check out Dallas Clayton’s blog. I don’t get anything for promoting him, but I sure do enjoying reading it.

Last week, while doing some homework at about 2:30am I found myself procrastinating, and I made this.

Luckily typed letters are more professional, because apparently, my handwriting wouldn’t cut it.
